Seriously, this is the top-tier version of the album when you compare it to the other releases. It sounds amazing and is really well-made, even if it's not a gatefold. Plus, it's got more tracks and totally gives off those she-wolf vibes.
It seems inevitable that Shakira would eventually team up with The Neptunes for her third English language album, and together they've created her first record where the beats take precedence over the lyrics. The protest songs, social commentary, and love songs that made her previous albums so enjoyable are notably absent, replaced instead by tracks where Shakira explores the theme of sex, albeit not in overly explicit terms. "She Wolf" is an album designed for dancing, filled with electronic beats ("She Wolf", "Men in This Town") and reggaeton rhythms, which, as Brits, we're not entirely accustomed to. Fans of the lyrically rich Shakira of yesteryear may find this album disappointing, as the "old" Shakira songs are sparse on this record. Shakira herself has acknowledged that the dance influence was her goal for this album, and with the UK version clocking in at just ten tracks, the total listening time is a brief half an hour - whereas other regions have Spanish versions of some tracks ("Did It Again", "Long Time") or even an additional song ("Give It Up to Me"). Yes, the execution is impressive (The Neptunes' production does sound innovative here), but it might take some time to develop any real feelings towards it (if any). I wish I could love this album as much as her others, but sadly, "She Wolf" hasn't quite captured me.
Wow, this album sounds fantastic! It's got a really warm and rich sound that's full of life. I couldn't hear any hissing or pops at all. I'm absolutely loving the color of the somewhat see-through sea glass with those cool swirls. So thrilled to finally own this album!
In my opinion, the colors of the European and American versions are not identical. The European one is more like aquamarine.
Songs on Side A ended up on B side, weird right? Anyone elses got this issue?
