  • Preferred Pressing Surpasses Original

This pressing has truly blown me away, I'd even go as far as to say I like it more than my original 1983 version. UPDATE: After a few more spins since my last comment, I've noticed a clear change in surface noise when it hits the red/pink part of the tri-color.

  • A Balanced 80's Yes

    4 out of 5 stars
    zbiyxfobojiju15 December 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

I'll be honest right off the bat, this isn't my top Yes album. I'm more of a fan of their progressive 70's stuff compared to the 80's pop and new wave vibes they explored here and on the next album, Big Generator. Still, there's plenty to appreciate musically, and you can catch hints of their proggy roots, especially on side 2.When I first played it, I was a tad concerned about the sound quality. The snare hits and Tony Rabin's guitar lacked that initial punch, making it sound a bit softer than I anticipated. I was worried it might be another Lutthans-cut reissue from the 80's, like Fleetwood Mac's Tango In The Night, which I wasn't a huge fan of. I started to wonder if Lutthans just doesn't get this era of rock music. But my fears were mostly put to rest when I cranked up the volume a bit. The record really came to life then. It's cut a bit lower than expected, but with a little extra volume, the sound really shines. This version might not have the brightness I usually associate with it, but I kind of like that. The slightly darker tone makes the whole album sound more balanced to me, and it reduces some of the harshness that can get tiring after around 40 minutes of listening. That's not to say the music loses its energy, but there's more room to appreciate some of the finer details that often get lost in other versions. The bass, for instance, has more texture here than in previous cuts, and the vocals come through clearer too. Some die-hard fans of this album might not dig these changes, but for someone like me who never loved this album to begin with, these changes are a plus.Fidelity, as always, did a fantastic job with the pressing. It's flat and quiet, just like their usual work.

  • Incredible Detail Improvement

I've got no issues, as I'm picking up details I missed with my old Canadian version. Absolutely incredible!
