Without a doubt, this is one of the top SACD records out there, with not a single weak track. It's easily one of the greatest albums of all time, produced so well that it still sounds fresh today. And let me tell you, Steely Dan's 'Gaucho' is another absolute masterpiece.

Poate cel mai excelent album al formației Roxy Music, acest disc are reputația de a fi și cel mai bine produs. Avalon, sadly, is one of those albums that's fallen victim to its own brilliance, getting played endlessly and turned into an audiophile cliché. But honestly, it's way better than that! I've yet to come across a bad-sounding version. The original vinyl sounds fantastic. The recent Abbey Road/Half Speed master by Miles Showell is really impressive. Even the basic, super common 1999 HDCD remaster sounds good. I'm not usually one to compare digital to analogue, but I'll make an exception here—the SACD is a solid upgrade over the 1999 HDCD. The usual SACD perks like spaciousness, air, and that analogue flow, plus the fatigue-free listening, are all there. The HDCD has a bit more bass and punch, but it can't hold a candle from the midrange up. This SACD is way more natural, wider, and deeper. The dynamics on all these 2015 Roxy SACDs are so good that you can crank them up and still avoid any listening fatigue. Sure, mastering quality can vary across formats, but I've heard enough SACDs now to know they offer the best of both worlds—analogue's listening traits and the best aspects of CDs. It's just a bummer there aren't more albums like this one.
I'm just starting to explore Roxy Music and I must say, I'm truly impressed by the fantastic songwriting and production. In my opinion, this album feels like a more seasoned Simple Minds collaborating with The Fixx. The guitar work and chorus arrangements are absolutely stunning!
