Incredible collection put together by Music Matters Jazz and Joe Harley, with mastering by Alan Yoshida, the co-founder of XRCD24. Hands down, these Blue Note tracks have never sounded this good in the digital world, even surpassing many analog transfers I've listened to! A must-have, but grab them quick before they're out!
The pressing of my copy is quite decent. There aren't any pops, just a few light clicks scattered around. There are some odd patterns visible on the vinyl, but they don't cause any extra noise. The music sounds pretty good, though I've heard more vibrant reissues. You can clearly distinguish the instruments in the mix. All in all, it's very nice. I'd rate it around 4.5 out of 5 – the sound is good, but not exceptional. Cartridge used: AT150Sa
This isn't my top Byrd record, but it's not terrible - the musicianship is solid, as per usual, Byrd and Adams gel nicely, Duke Pearson lends his skills on piano, and Philly Joe handles the drums, but the songs just don't resonate with me. The first two tracks, both by Pearson, are the standouts for me.
Fantastic sound quality, truly embodies the Music Matters name. Drums are dynamic and feel real, the bari sax is incredibly immersive, and the piano has a warm, inviting tone. The title track is my personal favorite. It's got that effortless, vintage 45 RPM sound. The vinyl is nice and quiet. That said, the songs are a bit bland compared to my favorite Byrds albums.
I've got a version of this with a brown obi, still in its shrink wrap but opened, it's definitely a French pressing, not Japanese, promoting other Blue Note releases. Has anyone else stumbled upon something alike with any French Blue Note's from that era?
