One of my regrets was that Karen did not get the chance to have a world class orchestra accompany her beautiful voice. Decades later, I hear of this project, and I immediately pre-ordered the cd. It certainly does not disappoint. I was left with a lump in my throat after listening to the entire cd, and was moved to tears a few times. So glad this project happened.
The music - 5 starsThis pressing - 1 starA fantastic concept to blend Karen Carpenter’s unique, velvet voice with a world-class orchestra and the concept works really well.However, like others, my copy has far too much noise for a new record - sounded like a bowl of Rice Krispies after pouring the milk on... loud snaps, crackles and pops galore. To be fair, it’s not constant, but it’s far too much.Not only that, both records are pressed off centre and both have small warps. The cartridge swings left and right and bobs up and down like some wild fairground ride.Also, there appears to be some black vinyl mixed in with the white.This release was delayed for 5 months and they still turned out this poor quality pressing.What a shame. This deserved a really high quality record to show off a special project. I’ll have to stick to the 192/24 digital stream on Qobuz.
Reading through reviews on the US copy, as well as on Amazon, I had little hope that this EU pressing would be good, as many reported noise and poor sound. When I received this, I checked the records and yes, there were some tiny speckles of dust but nothing alarming. No scratches or fingerprints whatsoever. I then cleaned both records using my Humminguru before I played them. My fears were unfounded as the records are both quiet and have great sound. Karen's vocals come through amazingly. I wish the sound stage was a little wider but that's just nitpicking. Overall, this is an excellent pressing with great arrangement.
Just a bit too much messing with some classic tunes. Almost right, but not quite.
I don’t really know why this is getting some hate, it’s a nice collection of songs rearranged with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, it’s not a hits album.My copy has some surface new, and it was brand new all be it, stored about 4 years before I got it, but it played through very well
