Product description

This 2025 Reissue Remastered Repress LP is housed in a gatefold, pressed on 180g vinyl.

David Sylvian's debut solo album, "Brilliant Trees," is a captivating exploration of art rock and art pop, released in June 1984. This seven-track journey showcases Sylvian's distinctive voice and innovative approach to music, blending elements of funk, jazz, and ambient sounds to create a unique and eclectic listening experience. Recorded in late 1983 at the iconic Hansa Tonstudios in Berlin with producer Steve Nye, the album is a testament to Sylvian's artistic evolution and his willingness to push musical boundaries.

The album opens with "Pulling Punches," setting the tone for the introspective and atmospheric journey that follows. Tracks like "Red Guitar" and "The Ink in the Well" highlight Sylvian's knack for crafting moody, jazz-infused compositions that are both haunting and beautiful. The title track, "Brilliant Trees," stands out as the longest piece on the album, stretching over eight minutes and offering a deep dive into Sylvian's experimental side.

"Brilliant Trees" is a significant work in David Sylvian's discography, marking his transition from his work with Japan to his solo career. The album's eclectic nature and innovative production make it a standout release in the art rock and art pop genres. Whether you're a long-time fan of David Sylvian or a newcomer to his music, "Brilliant Trees" is an essential addition to any music collection, offering a rich and rewarding listening experience.

  • Vinyl Pressing Impresses

I own the first UK edition and this one, along with the CD. Truthfully, this pressing is more than enough — grab it and you're all set. It's pressed flawlessly on (clearly) excellent vinyl, presenting the music with a rich atmosphere, powerful impact, and superb sound quality. It fits the bill perfectly as a whole and meets the standards this music deserves. I'm pleasantly surprised! EDIT: just read NyJeffy's review. Well, on my setup it doesn’t sound muddled, but I can see how it might on other systems. There's a certain (intentional, I believe) tendency to it.

I own the first UK pressing and this one, along with the CD. To be honest, this version is more than enough — grab it and you're good to go. It's pressed flawlessly on, of course, excellent vinyl, delivering the music with a rich atmosphere, powerful impact, and superb tone. It suits the music so well and meets the standards it deserves. I'm pleasantly surprised! EDIT: Just read NyJeffy's review. Well, on my setup it doesn't sound muddled, but I can see how it might on others. There's a certain tendency (I think it's intentional).
