The cartridge is the heart of your turntable. Moving Magnet (MM) cartridges are affordable and easy to replace, making them great for beginners. Moving Coil (MC) offers better quality but costs more and typically requires a specialized phono preamp.

Bluetooth turntables are perfect for modern setups. They connect wirelessly to speakers or headphones, though there may be slight latency. If you want the convenience of wireless audio without extra cables, a Bluetooth turntable is ideal.

Automatic turntables start, stop, and return the tonearm automatically, making them very beginner-friendly. Manual turntables give you more control but require you to handle the tonearm yourself. For most people starting out, automatic is much easier and helps prevent accidental damage to your records.

Look for established brands with good reputations: Audio-Technica, Rega, Pro-Ject, Technics, and Thorens are all reliable choices. Audio-Technica is great for beginners with affordable, quality options. Pro-Ject offers excellent value with many entry-level models. Read reviews and check return policies when buying.

For beginners, $100-$300 gets you a decent automatic turntable with good sound quality. $300-$600 offers better build quality and features. Above $600 you're entering audiophile territory with significant improvements in sound. Don't spend more than you can afford - even budget turntables can sound great with good records.
