Incredible press. It's flat and silent. The mix and mastering are top-notch. The soundstage is vast and dynamic with superb separation. I've only got digital versions to compare it to, but this one sounds richer with more intricacies. It's an outstanding listen and a must-have for any enthusiast. Level. Balanced. Purity. No static or pops. Absolutely fantastic sounding record. I snagged one from the early 2000s. Funny thing about IVC, the lower the number, the worse it performs. I had an Across the Universe with a super low serial, like #0006, and it was awful. Picked up another copy around #1800 and it was way better.
The vinyl arrived in great packaging, complete with nice archival anti-static sleeves. That said, I think the vinyl's mastering is too loud, which makes many tracks sound squashed. This is especially noticeable on the later tracks of each disc, where there's some inner groove distortion. It's not terrible, but it's definitely not audiophile quality. The gatefold is a bit flimsy, but that's not a big deal for me since I always use outer sleeves. The inclusion of "Best Sunday Dress" makes this vinyl worth buying, a track that, in my view, should've been on the original album.
This record is one of the finest sounding in my collection! The packaging is fantastic, and the album has been remastered to perfection. IVC really outdid themselves! Grab your copy before they're gone!
