Product description

This LP was released in 2025.

Dive into the sonic landscape of "Elaenia," the debut studio album by British electronic musician Sam Shepherd, better known as Floating Points. Released on November 6, 2015, under Shepherd's own Pluto label and Luaka Bop, this album is a testament to Shepherd's eclectic influences and innovative spirit. "Elaenia" draws inspiration from a rich tapestry of genres, including classical, jazz, electronic music, soul, and even Brazilian popular music, creating a unique and captivating listening experience.

The album's title is inspired by the Elaenia, a genus of small passerine birds, reflecting Shepherd's fascination with nature and migration. The artwork, created by Shepherd himself, features intricate patterns generated by connecting fibre-optic cables to a homemade harmonograph, adding a visual dimension to the auditory journey.

"Elaenia" spans seven tracks, each meticulously crafted to evoke a sense of depth and nuance. The album opens with "Nespole," setting the stage for the mesmerizing ebbs and flows that characterize the rest of the record. Standout tracks like "Silhouettes (I, II & III)" and the title track "Elaenia" showcase Shepherd's ability to blend complex layers of sound with a delicate touch, creating a sonic landscape that is both intricate and accessible.

With a duration of just over 42 minutes, "Elaenia" is a concise yet powerful statement from one of the most forward-thinking artists in electronic music today. Whether you're a fan of ambient, jazz, or experimental electronic music, "Elaenia" offers a fresh and engaging listening experience that is sure to captivate and inspire.

  • Wax Excellence, Thoughtful Packaging

    5 out of 5 stars
    yayapforahDecember 13, 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

Absolutely, I'm right there with the other reviewer on this one. The packaging is so understated at first glance, but once you open it, you see the thoughtfulness put into every detail, from the photo inside the sleeve, the thorough liner notes, to the inner bag itself. And that wax! It's so quiet and dynamic with incredible instrument separation, even on the more complex tracks. This is outstanding music treated with the utmost care. A labor of love from a dedicated musician. Kudos!

  • Hype Overrated, Unoriginal

    3 out of 5 stars
    aohmiukcAugust 30, 2025United States🇺🇸

The hype surrounding this album is unjustified, as I can't detect any originality in it. It just seems like a pop-infused mix of 90's Pete Namlook's house-ambient style and The Cinematic Orchestra's jazzy vibe.

  • Clear Dynamic Album Version

    4 out of 5 stars
    VoqukOkplaijAugust 21, 2025United States🇺🇸

A bit of surface noise creeps in during the quietest parts… but apart from that, this is a clear, dynamic version of this fantastic album. Just so you know, bought it new in 2025 with the blue sticker featuring the Pharaoh Sanders quote.

  • Flawless Vinyl Masterpiece

    5 out of 5 stars
    pjusm_ivuJuly 6, 2025United States🇺🇸

Honestly, this vinyl release is absolutely flawless. It's pressed on 180 gram black vinyl and comes in a top-notch slipcase. The record is kept safe in a high-quality poly sleeve and has been half-speed mastered. It's a 33rpm double-sided release, featuring the whole album. This makes it an absolute joy to listen to and handle. I can't imagine how it could be any better. The sound quality is outstanding, and the presentation is incredibly satisfying. The music itself is amazing too. From one collector to another, great job Sam. Everyone should take note of this.

  • Timeless Artistic Treasure

A truly outstanding piece of artistry - a timeless treasure for generations ahead.
