I'm on the same page as REENO here. I'm not convinced this album is worth getting on vinyl, but I'm a Prince enthusiast. I'm also a Pearl Jam supporter, have Riot Act on vinyl, and share the same thoughts. Having said that, I've played all 6 vinyls, and this isn't a great pressing. The only motivation to own it is for completion's sake. It's a very noisy pressing that no amount of cleaning can fix.
Great audio quality on this vinyl, and the packaging is stunning. There's a typo or two and some line breaks that weren't in the original CD or cassette version, but it's still an awesome box set for a record that absolutely earned it.
The album is fantastic. It's a bit too lengthy, and it might be easier to digest as a double album. But it is what it is, and there are some real hidden treasures worth finding. The audio quality is decent. I believe the production could've used a bit more edge. Definitely deserves 4 stars.
Among the greatest Prince albums ever! For me, this was one of my all-time faves when it dropped and still sits in my Prince top 5. Bummer about my copy, though - vinyls 2 & 4 are messed up. Gotta swap it out. These days, when you get a box set with multiple LPs, you can pretty much guarantee one of them will be flawed (the upcoming 10xLPs for 1999 has me stressed). Majors, how about doing test pressings? Thanks for us spending our cash. Real shame and not very pro.
