Kish Kash - Basement Jaxx

Product description

This 2023 Limited Edition Reissue 2LP set is pressed on Red vinyl.

Kish Kash, the third studio album by Basement Jaxx, is a vibrant and experimental journey into the world of big beat, released on 20 October 2003 under XL Recordings. This 14-track collection, recorded between March 2002 and July 2003 at their own Jaxx Studio in London, showcases the duo's evolution and fresh approach to electronic music. After a grueling tour that left them exhausted and homesick, Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe sought to create something new, less reliant on grooves and samples, and more focused on innovation.

The album opens with the infectious "Good Luck," featuring Lisa Kekaula, and continues to impress with a diverse range of collaborations. Meshell Ndegeocello lends her soulful vocals to "Right Here's The Spot" and "Feels Like Home," while Dizzee Rascal adds his unique touch to "Lucky Star." Other notable features include Totlyn Jackson on "Supersonic" and JC Chasez on "Plug It In." The album also includes instrumental tracks like "Benjilude," "Petrilude," and "Cosmolude," which showcase Basement Jaxx's knack for creating engaging electronic soundscapes.

Kish Kash is a testament to Basement Jaxx's ability to blend various musical elements seamlessly. The album's 50-minute runtime is packed with energy, creativity, and a zest for life, making it a standout release in their discography. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to their music, Kish Kash offers a captivating exploration of the duo's signature sound and their continuous evolution as artists.

  • Basement Jaxx's Eclectic Fusion

    4 out of 5 stars
    kluomwlomDecember 26, 2025United States🇺🇸

One can't help but appreciate Basement Jaxx's "everything but the kitchen sink" approach on Kish Kash: they continue their trend of mixing a wide array of musical styles together, serving up whatever concoction results. Here, Arabic horns collide with rap on “Lucky Star”; Southern gospel roots bump into funky house on “Supersonic.” As with their previous album, the fusion isn't always seamless; there are a few bumps (like “Living Room”) along the way. Their punk rock spirit is more evident than ever on Kish Kash: “Cish Cash,” featuring Siouxsie Sioux on vocals, is a genre unto itself: house-thrash. Even when they don't quite hit the mark with every track, Basement Jaxx remains captivating, which is more than can be said for most mainstream house acts.
