  • Revival Energy, Production Flaw

    4 out of 5 stars

Fantastic show, with a really superb setlist highlighting the band's newfound freedom after Blackmore's departure. The CD is so affordable these days that there's no excuse not to grab a copy. So why just 4 stars? David Richard's production is a tad too polished to truly capture the explosive energy of Deep Purple's revitalized 1996 sound. Be sure to check out the Moscow 96 video on YouTube to witness the incredible heights MkVI reached. The choice to include 2 tracks from 2000 instead of completing the 1996 concert is utterly puzzling.

  • Decent Recording, Poor Mix

    4 out of 5 stars
    FeinlalxAugust 2, 2024United States🇺🇸

The pressing is solid and the concert sounds great. However, the base mix just isn't up to par. I'm using multi-channel stereo mode, but the center channel is way too loud because it's handling a lot of the highs. It feels like most of the music is being funneled towards the center channel, even though I'm in stereo mode. I've had to crank up both subwoofers quite a bit, plus an extra 2.5 db boost, and even then, I'm having to turn the volume way up to get the loudness I want. Normally, I wouldn't need to turn it up this high. I think the recording itself is decent, but the mix could be much better. It's not bad, but it's not as good as it could be with a proper mix. No issues with the vinyl itself—no unwanted noises or distortion. It's not a terrible recording, it just needs a better mix. The sound doesn't fill the room, and the soundstage is lacking. I'm sure it could have sounded a lot better. Bootradr
