  • King Crimson's Dynamic Live Spectacle

    5 out of 5 stars
    giwurnirzizfsuJuly 17, 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

This recording isn't "QUIET" at all. It's uncompressed, boasting a DR14db, which might seem subdued when you compare it to most modern productions sitting at DR5/6db. But don't be fooled—it's packed with detail and offers a full tonal range. Just turn up the volume a notch! The tracks on “Live At The Orpheum” showcase the full spectrum of King Crimson's sound: jazz, fusion, improvisation, and classic symphonic rock. The standout performances are the two tracks from the “Red” album, “One More Red Nightmare” and “Starless.” These two alone make up half the concert's runtime and are, without a doubt, its most brilliant moments.

  • Mixed Feelings on Crimson Live

    3 out of 5 stars

This album has me torn, let me tell you. On the one hand, I'm not completely convinced by the Jakko Jakszyk fronted King Crimson, but I was really into the rehearsal tracks like "3 Headed Doom" and "Venturing Into Joy." That's why I decided to check out the live releases, and I picked this one because the drums sounded great, Bill Rieflin was mixed high and played fantastically. My favorite track is "The ConstruKction Of Light," which sounds so much better with the extra drummers compared to the pre-2008 versions with just one percussionist. "Sailor's Tale" is perfect, and "One More Red Nightmare" isn't bad either. On the other hand, the mix is a bit muddy, and the CD is mastered way too quiet. The 96/24 DVD isn't as impressive as on other Crimson releases where the hi-res version really enhances the source. I think something must have gone wrong when I compare this to other audiophile Crimson releases. I really dislike "The Letters" and wish they'd swapped it for "Red," "Level 5," or "Larks' Tongues In Aspic II," etc. If I were to be totally harsh, I'd say compare this to "Vrooom Vrooom," "Cirkus," or "Absent Lovers." I can see I'm destined to have a love/hate relationship with this album, just like I do with Bowie's "David Live!

This isn't a movie on DVD. It's just music with static images.

  • Low Volume Mix Issue

My mix is quite low in volume and sounds really strange. Has anyone else encountered this problem?
