This is one of those classic soul jazz sessions featuring organ, guitar, and drums. Holmes is on fire here, and his organ bass lines are absolutely stellar on this Rudy Van Gelder masterpiece. Gene Edwards also delivers some fantastic guitar work, especially on "Dahoud". The sound quality of this mono pressing is phenomenal, with incredibly clear and deep bass and a warm, rich atmosphere. My copy is in great shape, with just some minor, faint surface noise here and there. Five stars and a big smile for this one.
This album is so overlooked! Each side is fantastic, but "Song For My Father" really packs a punch. I picked it up at a thrift store nearby for just $3, I was shocked to see it sells for so little online.
Couldn't agree more with the review above. At this price point, it's astonishing how overlooked this album is. The musicians are absolutely on fire here, and the sound just leaps from the speakers. What a fantastic record!
