  • Breathtaking Album Sound Quality

    5 out of 5 stars

It's been ages since I last listened to this album in full, back in the early 80s, but I owned most of the singles back then and played them relentlessly as a kid (which is how I know b-sides like "The Disco Strangler" so well). While I can't compare this version to others, I can tell you that the sound I'm getting from this SACD through my speakers is absolutely breathtaking. This is clearly a brilliantly recorded, expertly mixed, and masterfully mastered edition. I'm in awe of the cushiony punch of the drums, the sparkling clarity of the cymbals (and how they're creatively panned between the speakers), the rich tone of the bass guitar, the expansive soundstage of the keyboards, and the centered vocals (often enveloped in harmonies). It's begging to be cranked up, and when I do, I'm treated to even more enveloping stereo sound that never turns harsh.

  • Japanese Pressing: Clear and Crisp

This Japanese pressing boasts an incredible amount of clarity and presence. It's packed with detail and crisp sound. I'd definitely recommend it! It's a fantastic and comparable option if you're not keen on spending a fortune on a One Step pressing.

  • Eagles' Best Sounding Album

  • Eagles' Final Studio Gems

    5 out of 5 stars
    gacehesaqaweltOctober 26, 2025United States🇺🇸

It ain't their finest work, but it's surely worth having. Following a streak of successful albums, this was the Eagles' final studio album, and it's got some real gems. Like the iconic title track, "The Long Run". Plus, "I Can't Tell You Why" and "Heartache Tonight" were radio hits with their catchy, sing-along tunes. Don't miss out on the underrated "In the City" and "Those Shoes", which you won't find easily elsewhere. The rest of the album is just alright. There's a mix of sounds and styles, like "The Greeks", and "Sad Cafe" wraps it up perfectly. After this, the Eagles disbanded, with members pursuing solo careers, with Don Henley standing out. Despite the musical trends of the time, including that dreadful disco craze (1979), the Eagles delivered a creative and innovative studio album that's bound to become a classic. You might call it the original black album, but it's a must-have for any rock fan's collection.

Eagles' top album in my book! Can't get enough of Sad Cafe! A fantastic record, every track is a winner.
