Product description

This is a 2024 Reissue released as a 2LP set.

Quasimoto's The Unseen is a groundbreaking masterpiece that delves into the realms of experimental hip hop, alternative hip hop, jazz rap, and underground hip hop, with a hint of boom bap. Released on 1 December 2004 via Stones Throw Records, this album is a testament to Quasimoto's innovative production style and lyrical dexterity.

The 23-track journey, spanning over an hour, takes listeners on a sonic adventure through a diverse range of sounds and themes. From the introductory 'Welcome To Violence' to the closing 'Discipline 99 Pt. 1', Quasimoto weaves a complex tapestry of beats, rhymes, and melodies that showcase his unique artistic vision.

With tracks like 'Microphone Mathematics', 'Low Class Conspiracy', and 'Astro Black', Quasimoto demonstrates his ability to blend jazz-infused instrumentation with thought-provoking lyrics, creating a truly immersive experience. The Unseen is an album that rewards close attention, with each song offering a distinct perspective on the world around us.

Throughout the album, Quasimoto's eclectic approach to hip hop is on full display, incorporating elements of jazz, soul, and psychedelia to create a richly textured sound. • Loud, Pronounced Highs, Balanced Sound

    5 out of 5 stars
    acyt-wixafeNovember 27, 2025United States🇺🇸

When you put this RP up against the original first pressing, it seems a bit louder and the highs are more pronounced. It's a tad unbalanced in that sense, but it still delivers a fantastic sound overall.

  • GZ Pressing Impresses with Sound Quality

    5 out of 5 stars
    sormlwipccil04October 27, 2025United States🇺🇸

I've had a good run with GZ pressings as of late, and this one from my local shop is no exception. The only downside for me is those awful paper sleeves they use. Apart from that, the discs are top-notch - flat and look fantastic. The sound quality is superb, way better than my CD and digital copies. It's got this warm, wide sound with smooth bass that really makes the samples stand out. I'm genuinely impressed! I'd happily pay a bit more, like 5-6 bucks, for a decent poly sleeve inner. That paper's gotta go. From what I've seen, GZ has really upped their game with fewer surface noise and defects, but that's just from my own experiences.

How's the quality on this record? Is it a good buy?

  • Surface Noise Confusion

Honestly can’t figure out if I’m picking up surface noise, or if that’s just the way it sounds. 😂 Still pretty decent press though — not too much bass. 4/5

About Quasimoto

Quasimoto, the alter ego of renowned hip hop producer Madlib, hails from Oxnard, California, and offers a unique blend of experimental and underground hip hop. Born out of Madlib's desire to rap over his own beats, Quasimoto features the distinctive high-pitched voice of Lord Quas, a character created by slowing down and speeding up Madlib's vocals. This side project is known for its eclectic mix of funk, jazz, soul, and blaxploitation samples, all woven together with Madlib's signature scatter-... Read more
