Chris Huston has done it again with another outstanding album. And let's not forget the tunes: this is among the finest renditions of War you'll find - the whole lp is packed with great tracks from beginning to end. Just pop it on, relax, and let 1971 take you away. A must-have for any collection...
Amazing! The vinyl is perfectly flat and silent. The sound is incredibly rich and detailed. I'm not entirely sure which masters were used for these 2022 reissues. It appears they're the same ones from the 2021 box set. Grab them all while you still can. They sound phenomenal!
Absolute top-tier WAR album right here. "Slippin' Into Darkness" is one of those tracks that just burrows into your very essence... from that gradual start to that mesmerizing rhythm. There's this clip of them playing it live on Soul Train over on YT. I'm not much of a dancer, so perhaps it's just my perspective, but it's absolutely side-splitting. Just observe the crowd getting into it, at 1:53, the beat actually lifts a guy right off his feet. This song's been sampled countless times, and even Bob Marley borrowed the sax riff for his "Get Up, Stand Up".
Drugi krążek tego zespołu to już ich prawdziwe oblicze. Utwór tytułowy od razu wprowadza w relaksujący nastrój, który jest ich znakiem rozpoznawczym. „Slippin’ Into Darkness” to już hymn. Funkowy, ale z niepokojącym podtekstem, opowiadający o uzależnieniach i upadkach. Pozostałe kompozycje wahają się między chwilami relaksu a poważniejszymi tematami, a wszystko to łączy charakterystyczny dla War mix groove'u, dęciaków i swobodnej improwizacji.
Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. A brilliant, funky album. Among their finest work.
