Sadly, there was a 25-second stretch of awful popping on 'Kumba', making the song pretty much unbearable to listen to. Apart from that, the pressing was top-notch and really brought out the sounds of Pharaoh Sanders and his band beautifully.

While many of Pharoah's subsequent albums leaned more towards new age rather than innovative, this album sees him regain his distinctive energy, much owed to Bill Laswell's inventive production. Bernie Worrell adds funky layers, backed by a talented ensemble, making this a standout in Pharoah’s later discography and a essential listen for devoted followers.
