Got this one used, it sounds awesome! No problems with pops or scratches like some folks mentioned. I hadn't heard anything past Boxer, but Alligator is fantastic and I can't wait to play it again.
It's strange to come across so many negative reviews. My copy is of excellent quality. Beggars Banquet has a solid reputation, so it's surprising to see such harsh feedback. As for the album, it's the only National record I enjoy. They became a bit too intense, a bit too gloomy after this. Alligator is entertaining, amusing, heartbreaking, and peculiar. I thought I'd discovered my new favorite band, but Boxer disappointed me—and it's been downhill from there.
This pressing is quite good, with a few clicks popping up now & then, but they're not overly bothersome. I'd say Boxer's sound quality is a bit better though. Still, this is definitely a great pressing, no question about it!
Fantastic record, sounds incredibly clear, and mine has hardly any skips or noise. Super solid pressing, looks amazing as well.
I picked up this CD directly from The National after catching their live performance at the Houston House of Blues way back in October 2010. The concert was amazing, though I guess that's to be expected.
