Product description

This is a 2021 Reissue released as a LP.

Close to the Edge, the iconic 1972 album from renowned progressive rock band Yes, is a masterclass in symphonic rock and art rock. Released on 13 September 1972, this seminal work has been re-released in 2003 by Rhino/Elektra, featuring remastered tracks that breathe new life into the original recordings. The album's intricate tracklist, including the epic title track 'Close to the Edge', which is divided into four distinct sections - 'The Solid Time of Change', 'Total Mass Retain', 'I Get up I Get Down', and 'Seasons of Man' - showcases the band's technical prowess and innovative spirit.

With a duration of 1 hour and 4 minutes, Close to the Edge is an immersive experience that delves into the realms of album rock, pushing the boundaries of conventional music. The remastered edition also includes alternate versions and studio run-throughs, such as 'And You and I - Alternate Version' and 'Siberia - Studio Run-Through of Siberian Khatru', offering a fascinating glimpse into the band's creative process. Yes's Close to the Edge is a landmark album that has stood the test of time, and its influence can still be felt in the world of progressive rock today.

  • Yes Album: Warm and Wonderful

    5 out of 5 stars
    bsatszingkubufJanuary 3, 2026United States🇺🇸

This Yes album is my absolute favorite. I'm a huge fan of that warm, cozy blanket of plate reverb, it's just so delicious. It's *slightly* distorted in parts, but I think that's just an issue with the recording or maybe it's just a common thing. Even if it's not, it doesn't stop me from enjoying it.

  • Reissue Outshines Original

    4 out of 5 stars
    lmoptkubiyabuNovember 30, 2025United States🇺🇸

I own both this reissue and the original US version, and in my opinion, this one outshines the original in several aspects. Firstly, if you can find a sealed copy, the pressing quality here is likely to exceed that of a used original. Optimal did a fantastic job on this release. While it didn't look impressive at first glance, the sound quality is truly exceptional. The first side, featuring the title track, had virtually no ticks or pops that I could detect on my system, even during the quiet bridge between "Total Mass Retain" and "I Get Up I Get Down". I was genuinely amazed by how clean the background sounded on Side 1. Side 2 wasn't quite as flawless, but it still earned an A rating from a noise perspective. The disc was also perfectly flat, so kudos to Optimal all around. Regarding the mastering, I'd say it's comparable to the US original, with a couple of notable differences. Firstly, the high end sounds slightly subdued in comparison, which I consider a positive. The organ section in "I Get Up I Get Down" is much more tolerable on this pressing, whereas the original sounds painfully harsh. Secondly, the inner-groove distortion at the end of both sides is significantly worse on the original pressing. The Bellman cut is a marked improvement, though it doesn't completely solve the issue. Those who can't stand the inner-groove distortion might prefer the new Kevin Gray 2LP 45 cut, though I haven't had a chance to listen to it myself. An odd thing to note is that the 2012 reissue is cut MUCH lower on Side 2 compared to Side 1. It's not a major problem since turning up the amp volume doesn't significantly increase the noise floor or distortion, but it's worth knowing in case you're wondering why Side 2 doesn't sound as impactful as the first.

This is how every reissue of 1970's records should be done. You receive pristine vinyl, a live performance in excellent quality, and the atmospheric mix. It's well-considered and sounds fantastic! Alright

  • Bass-Powered Vinyl Masterpiece

    5 out of 5 stars
    WodsGofgrNovember 6, 2025United States🇺🇸

Could very well be the most amazing bass I've ever come across on a vinyl record. All the other elements sound fantastic as well, nothing to criticize here. Trust me, it's even better when you crank up the volume a tad!
