Product description

This 2015 Limited Edition Repress LP is pressed on Gray vinyl.

"Push the Sky Away" is the fifteenth studio album by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, released on February 18, 2013, under their independent label, Bad Seed Ltd. This album marks a significant evolution in the band's sound, blending their signature dark, poetic lyrics with a more atmospheric and expansive musical approach. The album's title track, "Push the Sky Away," sets the tone with its haunting melody and introspective lyrics, while tracks like "We No Who U R" and "Higgs Boson Blues" showcase the band's ability to merge philosophical musings with catchy, driving rhythms. "Mermaids" and "Jubilee Street" offer a more upbeat, almost anthemic feel, highlighting the band's versatility. With a runtime of just over 42 minutes, "Push the Sky Away" is a concise yet profound exploration of themes like love, loss, and the mysteries of the universe. Fans of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds will appreciate the album's rich storytelling and innovative soundscapes, making it a standout addition to their discography.

I snagged this album for such a bargain... I mean, such a steal I'm almost embarrassed. I'm at a loss, it's so good. The sound quality is impeccable, serene, and vast. It's pretty close to flawless.

I haven't checked out other LP albums, but this one is simply fantastic. It's way better than the CD version. Highly recommend it!

  • Bad Seeds' Introspective Evolution

    4 out of 5 stars
    kavpujjojmDecember 13, 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

Nick Cave and his bandmates make a comeback with one of their most introspective and engrossing albums in their nearly three-decade career. Fans of Nick Cave will immediately notice the absence of his signature dark, noir-ish style on this record. Instead, things are scaled back, sometimes to the bare minimum, yet the band's essence shines through as strongly as ever. A decade ago, many were writing off the Bad Seeds following the release of the somewhat disjointed 'Nocturama' album, which came on the heels of the ballad-heavy 'No More Shall We Part' in 2001. Looking back, however, both albums demonstrate that Nick Cave isn't interested in playing it safe. Much like PJ Harvey, who enjoys mixing things up to avoid repeating herself, Cave occasionally takes risks that may not always pay off. But isn't that what sets artists apart from the crowd? 'Push the Sky Away' is an album of genuine beauty, delicacy, and reflection. It's no surprise that guitars don't play a major role here, as this is the band's first album since the departure of Mick Harvey, an original member who left in 2009. So, it's up to the other talented members of the Bad Seeds to fill that void, and they do so admirably. The album kicks off with 'We No Who U R', a track filled with steady grooves over a synth backdrop and what sounds like a drum machine(!). It's a sophisticated opener with classic Cave lyrics: 'We know who you are; and we know where you live; and we know there's no need to forgive'. The minimalist approach to the record even sees Cave's piano take a backseat, though not completely. Lyrically, though, this is some of Cave's best work, as showcased in the album's standout track, 'Jubilee Street', a tribute to a murdered prostitute. It's also one of the vocal highlights of the LP, with Cave's voice building in intensity alongside the song's drama before fading back into the shadows. The album has a strong aquatic theme, which Cave himself admits must be due to writing the songs in his Brighton home, overlooking the sea. 'Water's Edge' and 'Mermaids' both embody this vibe—the latter, a love song, with enchanting vibes and quirky Cave lyrics: 'I believe in God; I believe in mermaids; I believe in seventy-two virgins; On a chain, why no why not'. 'We Real Cool' drifts in with bassy vibrations before transitioning into a piano-adorned ballad, culminating in a string-laden finale. It's truly classy stuff. The title track offers yet more stellar musicianship from the Bad Seeds, complete with gorgeous harmonized vocals. On first listen, 'Push the Sky Away' definitely sounds like a departure from the expected Bad Seeds sound, but upon subsequent listens, you realize this is very much a Bad Seeds album—they're just more subdued, lurking in the background. I expect this record to divide fans, much like 'No More Shall We Part' did, and I doubt it will attract many new followers. But for those of us ready for the Bad Seeds' evolution, 'Push the Sky Away' is the beginning of something great. Key Track: Jubilee Street
