Attention all collectors! While the Indonesian versions of the ABBA deluxe albums may be official, the reality is a far cry from what you'd hope for. Let me tell you, I was utterly let down when I finally received them. 1) These digipack versions are made from flimsy cardboard, more akin to a tissue box than the premium, glossy finish you'd anticipate. The front and back covers resemble color photocopies printed on a tissue or toilet paper roll, using a printer that's nearly out of ink. 2) The plastic inserts are haphazardly glued to the cardboard, and in my case, they came detached. 3) The booklet and CDs are printed atrociously. 4) The tax stickers on the back are impossible to remove due to the weak glue and the cheap cardboard backing. STEER CLEAR UNLESS YOU'RE A COMPLETIST TRYING TO OWN EVERY EDITION. These won't impress any serious collector; I'll have no choice but to splurge on the pricey European or Japanese editions.
This isn't Abba's finest work. It was made before their major success. But it's not terrible. Quite enjoyable.
This release is a bit of a mixed bag. The first song, Side A (Ring Ring Swedish), is downright awful in terms of sound. Quality does get better after that, but it's not consistent throughout. It's definitely better than any other version I've listened to, including the original Swedish and German pressings, and the DMM release. The vinyl is nice and quiet, and I'm guessing it's an Optimal pressing because of the Made in Germany sticker. The artwork is a bit faded, which seems to be a common issue with the entire Abbey Rd series. The master tapes weren't in the best shape, but the final product is as good as it's gonna get.
Lately, I've fallen head over heels for ABBA, their music and spirit have truly captivated me. Born in '90, I didn't grow up with their tunes, but once I took the time to dive into their discography, I was hooked. There were various editions to choose from, but I'm thrilled I stumbled upon this one! It's fantastic! It's your typical jewel case, but the artwork is incredibly cool. The booklet is packed with info; it's thick and filled with fun facts about the album's release and what was going on in the band members' lives. The photos are top-notch; they don't even look like they're from the '70s. Outstanding work. As for the music... I'm in love! Each track has a kind of magic that whisks me away to a world different from the one I grew up in! Oh, and it's a nice touch that they included bonus tracks. "Santa Rosa" is such a sweet and fun song, I absolutely adore it!! And it's a treat to hear the gang singing in their native tongue (Swedish). Fantastic edition!
If you're after a good version of this album, this one's nearly as top-notch as the Reader’s Digest collection. The artwork's really well done - none of that pixelated mess you see on the Back2Black releases. And the inner sleeve has some great notes too.
