Product description

This is a 2025 Reissue released as a LP.

Steely Dan's 1976 masterpiece, "The Royal Scam," is a classic rock gem that showcases the band's signature blend of intricate musicianship, witty lyrics, and sophisticated compositions. Originally released on May 31, 1976, under the Geffen label, this album has been meticulously remastered for 2025, offering a crisp and vibrant listening experience. With a runtime of just over 41 minutes, "The Royal Scam" is a concise yet impactful collection of tracks that highlight Steely Dan's unique sound and storytelling prowess.

The album opens with the title track, "Kid Charlemagne," a song that sets the tone for the rest of the record with its complex arrangement and cryptic lyrics. Throughout the album, Steely Dan delves into a variety of themes, from the mysterious and exotic ("The Caves of Altamira," "The Fez") to the personal and introspective ("Don't Take Me Alive," "Sign in Stranger"). Each track is a testament to the band's ability to craft songs that are both intellectually stimulating and undeniably catchy.

"The Royal Scam" also features some of Steely Dan's most enduring hits, including "Green Earrings" and the album's closer, "Everything You Did." These songs, along with the rest of the album's tracks, showcase the band's knack for blending rock, jazz, and pop elements into a cohesive and captivating whole. Whether you're a longtime fan of Steely Dan or a newcomer to their music, "The Royal Scam" is an essential addition to any classic rock collection.

Without a doubt, this is the greatest album from the greatest band to ever grace pop music.

  • Top-Notch Pressing, Superb Sound

    5 out of 5 stars
    runonojqDecember 28, 2025United States🇺🇸

I've got a version here with two side A stickers and no side B, but it's still in its shrink wrap, sporting a "Includes the hit single Kid Charlamagne" promo sticker. The pressing is top-notch and the sound quality is superb.

  • Steely Dan's Finest Groove

    5 out of 5 stars
    hugazmuyuxdipDecember 23, 2025United States🇺🇸

Stunning album, right up there with the greatest. If you're into diamond music, if you're a Steely Dan fan, if you've got any taste at all, this is the record for you. Vibrant, full, lively, and groovy. In my opinion, this is one of Becker & Fagen’s finest works, particularly in the lyrics. Go for it & you won't be disapointed!

  • Steely Dan's Finest Work

    5 out of 5 stars
    sebeszebeskexDecember 23, 2025United States🇺🇸

This is an amazing album, truly one of the greatest ever created. If you're a fan of diamond music, if you're into steely dan, if you've got any sense of good taste at all, this is the record for you. It's dynamic, rich, bright, and funky. In my opinion, this is one of Becker & Fagen’s finest works, particularly in the lyrics. Go for it, you won't be disapointed!

  • Disappointing Audio Quality

    2 out of 5 stars
    EjibjTasrerDecember 19, 2025United States🇺🇸

Audio quality is quite a letdown. I've got Gaucho and Aja in the same series, and they blow this one out of the water. The high notes, particularly the percussion, are downright painful to the ears. Plus, there's a tiny glitch in the beginning 30 seconds. What a pricey prank! My old Spanish copy, even in its poor condition, sounds superior.
