  • Top Guitar Trio Album

This is my top pick from Julian Lage's discography. It's got that raw edge at times, and other moments it's just pure sweetness. Catchy tunes, and the rhythm section is on fire. The mixing and recording are spot on. It's a fantastic guitar trio album that deserves more recognition.

  • Jazz Guitar's Best Rhythm

    3 out of 5 stars
    Ivy RousseauAugust 13, 2024United States🇺🇸

Update - I gave this another spin after some time. Truth be told, the drums feel a bit squashed and lack the liveliness of my other jazz guitar albums. Even though Kevin Gray's name isn't on the runout groove, I'm pretty confident this uses the same digital master file. Like Julian Lage's View With A Room, it's mastered with plenty of headroom to turn it up (the record was cut at a low volume). The dynamics really shine at higher volumes (without being harsh on the ears). This is Julian Lage's best work when it comes to the rhythm section.
