Following my first listen, I'm really impressed with this album. It's Bill on Verve, so what more can I say? My only gripe is that it's a bit too brief. I was truly enjoying side B, where the Orchestra and Trio blend together beautifully. I'd definitely recommend this one.
This is a truly delightful album that often gets overshadowed among Bill's many works. After the initial track, the Trio and Orchestra find a better harmony, though I must admit, Rudy might have taken a touch too long to make this adjustment, even if it was clearly done spontaneously. All in all, it's a fantastic album. Listening setup: Musical Fidelity A5 CPD analog out, Graham Slee Lautus interconnects, Yamaha AS501 as amp on direct play, Graham Slee Spatia speaker cable, Klipsch Quartet speakers.
This is a fantastic, soothing mix of gentle jazz and orchestral tunes. However, my copy is a tad noisy, which is a real letdown since I was eager to play it on my system. Lately, I've been more often disappointed than not with the quality of records, and considering the price, I expect better. It's not like I grabbed this from the bargain bin. I'd love to give a more thorough review of the music for fellow readers, but the poor quality just won't let me focus. I'll be sending it back and trying my luck with another copy. I bought it from Acoustic Sounds, so I know their customer service will handle the issue. They're truly the best to work with.
