  • Solid Vinyl, Great Value

    5 out of 5 stars
    yawbiejDecember 8, 2025United States🇺🇸

I picked up this edition for 25 Euros and I must say, it's quite good. The album, Lacquer Cut, is by Matthew Lutthans but released under Cohearent Audio. It's likely mastered by Kevin Gray. The vinyl is pressed by GZ Media, but it's a really solid pressing - the vinyl is flat, with great detail and dynamics. It's a bit more raw than RTI. The cover is heavy-duty. There's a tiny bit of distortion at the end of Boom Boom, but overall, I'd rate it 4.5 out of 5. The US version might be better, but I haven't compared them, and this one is cheaper.

For blues enthusiasts, grab a copy. It's a great record.

  • Noisy Orange PVC Disappointment

    2 out of 5 stars
    NocoodNgaxsuwOctober 27, 2025United States🇺🇸

Throughout the entire album, it seems like there's a fire crackling, which I'm guessing is just static, or at least hoping it is. The record looks stunning, but those crackly noises are quite distracting. It's like I'm playing it on a Crosley. For now, I'm giving it a 2/5. Edit: Side B is more of the same, maybe a bit less noisy, even after giving it another go with a carbon fiber brush. Quite disappointing, really. I'd heard that orange PVC is one of the noisier colors for records, something about its melting temp, so maybe there's truth to that.

  • European Version's Quieter Excellence

    5 out of 5 stars
    idohviokhcecwokAugust 13, 2025United States🇺🇸

I own both the European and American versions. My European copy sounds just as good and is significantly quieter at the same volume. Plus, the European version has a glossy cover, while the American one has a matte/satin finish. Both are excellent, but I lean towards the European version despite Craft not being entirely upfront about who mastered each. Any sonic differences are probably due to the pressing rather than the mastering. I'd be shocked if KG let his colleague do his own thing. More likely, they discussed and agreed on the approach. The differences are minimal. If anything, the European pressing is a touch less bright. That being said, my favorite way to enjoy this album is on CD through my HiFiman 1000 with the Pathos Aurium, powered by a Chord Qutest DAC/NAIM CD transport, both with linear PSUs. It's incredible how powerful it sounds on headphones.

  • New Record Impressions

    5 out of 5 stars
    hv7ywugnbAugust 4, 2025United States🇺🇸

Just received my copy! I bought it straight from Craft. I took it out and played it right away (I typically clean new records first) and it sounded fantastic, no skips, pops or static. Would've been cool if it came with liner notes.
