  This is an amazingly well-made pressing of one of the most iconic soul albums ever, proving that they can create crisp, high-quality colored vinyl when they handle it right. It's definitely worth the pricey international shipping to snag this copy... I'll second what others have said, though, that the orchestral tracks feel a tad rushed...

• Bass Overwhelms Fantastic Reissue

  I find myself in agreement with muthubuntu regarding the bass on this reissue, which tends to dominate the rest of the music, which is a pity because apart from that, this is a fantastic sounding reissue. You need to turn up the volume to truly appreciate it, but this unfortunately accentuates the heavy, pounding bass that's prevalent throughout much of the album. That being said, I must say the vocals sound clearer than on any other pressing I've encountered, and there's excellent clarity to a lot of the other instruments. However, as a whole listening experience, I prefer the Run Out Groove version which sounds more balanced; it has a more prominent mid-range, a rawness to the horns, and overall provides a more satisfying listening experience than this Rhino Reserve version. For some background, I have owned a OG US (Monarch), OG UK, Keep On Keeping On boxset and Run Out Groove version of this album.[Tested on: Rega P3 with Exact cart, Rego Mini phono stage, Rega I/O Amp, Elac Debut B6.2 speakers]

You've got to turn up the volume to truly appreciate it, but unfortunately, this also amplifies the heavy, pounding bass that's prevalent throughout most of the album. That said, I must admit the vocals sound clearer than on any other pressing I've come across, and there's a wonderful clarity to a lot of the other instruments as well.
