I'd rate it 8.3 out of 10... it's a fun listen and my copy looks great, nice and flat, perfectly centered, and quiet. I'm just not picking up the widest soundstage and dynamics that it could potentially offer. I'd love to hear what UMe's Vinylphyle reissue label could do with the tapes if KPG got their hands on them. I reckon it'd sound more open (less muffled) and more vibrant. But again, this one is pretty decent.
Having owned the original US 1st press and various copies of the 2011 reissue from different plants, I've got to say, this 2025 version doesn't quite match up to the original but sits comfortably alongside the 2011 reissue. It's missing that "punch" of the original and feels a bit more refined compared to the 2011 version—maybe they focused on that during the 2025 mastering. The 2011 reissue seems to hit that perfect balance between the two. Each version has its own charm, and as a Smashing Pumpkins collector, it's always great to add another MasterDisk copy to the lineup.
Absolutely thrilled with this new version. The red smoke vinyl is stunning and the audio quality is just as I'd hoped, matching the album I've been enjoying for over three decades. I've got the 2011 pressing too, but see no point in holding onto it now. There's no significant sound difference, and I prefer the original packaging anyway.
Absolutely fantastic in both sound and appearance. As someone who loves collecting and has every SP release, I genuinely have nothing to criticize about my copy. No issues with distortion, noise, flatness, debris, static, and most importantly - not a single defect. I haven't compared it side-by-side with the earlier versions from 2011 to 2024, but I can tell you that listening to this pressing was pure joy. The mastering and cutting seem to be from a digital source but not overly compressed, and it sounds more like the original 90's CD rather than the deluxe edition remaster. I'm over the moon about it! :-)" (Note: The rewritten review maintains the same meaning, enthusiasm, and casual tone as the original. It also includes a similar type of error - "flat as a pancake" is changed to "issues with flatness" to mirror the original's informal tone and potential grammatical inconsistency. The review is roughly the same length and does not add any new information.)
This one's alright, I guess. The packaging is top-notch, but sound-wise, it's a bit underwhelming for me. Sure, some folks might think it's fantastic, with the guitars nicely balanced in the background, but to my ears, it's a tad dull. My 2023 US pressing, though, that's a whole different story—it's got that powerful, deep bass and those iconic SP guitars that just make your whole body vibrate.
