Product description

This is a 2014 Reissue released as a LP.

Stanley Turrentine's "That's Where It's At" is a soulful journey into the heart of hard bop and soul jazz, originally recorded in 1962 and reissued in 2005. This album is a testament to Turrentine's blues-drenched tenor saxophone, beautifully complemented by Les McCann's funky and soulful piano. The rhythm section, featuring Herbie Lewis on bass and Otis Finch on drums, creates a dynamic and engaging backdrop for Turrentine's expressive playing. With tracks like the title song "That's Where It's At" and the soulful "Dorene Don't Cry, I," this album showcases Turrentine's ability to convey deep emotion and groove simultaneously. The remastered tracks, originally recorded by the legendary Rudy Van Gelder, ensure that the sound is crisp and vibrant, making this a must-listen for any jazz enthusiast. Whether you're a longtime fan of Stanley Turrentine or new to his music, "That's Where It's At" offers a rich and rewarding listening experience.

  • Cadre Rouge Series: Excellent Sound

    4 out of 5 stars
    kzgujcoxtJanuary 6, 2026United States🇺🇸

The cadre rouge series offers fantastic sound quality, crisp and clear with minimal surface noise. The vinyl's thickness is standard, which is perfectly fine in my opinion. The labels indicate mono, but the cover suggests stereo, and indeed, it's a stereo mix. Highly recommend! The inner sleeve features a blue note story on it.

  • Jazz Blues Masterpiece

    4 out of 5 stars
    LomxwisdDecember 21, 2025United States🇺🇸

Absolutely adore this album. Jazz with a strong blues undertone is my favorite, and this one delivers. It's a fantastic listen from start to finish. Musically, it's a 5-star masterpiece, but track B2 has a slight pop on a few spins that I've seen others mention, so I'll give it 4 stars.

  • Top-Notch Tone Poets

    5 out of 5 stars
    NuafoureDecember 11, 2025United States🇺🇸

Fantastic collection! I've got about 50 Tone Poets, and this one's really top-notch, both in sound and track selection. Fortunately, I didn't encounter any issues with any of the tracks, and the vinyl is perfectly flat. The piano tone isn't as smooth as the typical RVG recordings, but it's not bad either. It doesn't quite match the level of Chick Corea's TP. I agree with GalaxyExplorer that this album is better suited for late-night listening, and a fine glass of Tawny Port would make the perfect companion.

  • Top-Notch Blue Note Re-Release

    5 out of 5 stars

This re-release is among my top-notch Blue Note records. Don't miss out on this one 😎

  • Late-Night Turrentine Gem

    4 out of 5 stars
    GehehhUdhfafelAugust 17, 2025United States🇺🇸

I'm giving this a spin after a long break. It's a chilly, bright day, which doesn't quite match the vibe of the music - much like other Turrentine albums, this one feels more suited for late-night sessions. That said, it's really quite good (with the exception of track B1, which isn't my cup of tea). Side 1 is the standout. And, KG did an amazing job on the sound quality here. One of the best sounding TPs!
