Product description

This 2023 Limited Edition Reissue LP is pressed on Clear vinyl.

Harold Budd's "The White Arcades," released in 1988 under All Saints Records, is a mesmerizing blend of ambient, minimalism, shoegaze, and drone, spanning a concise yet impactful 41 minutes. This album, originally recorded at various locations including Palladium in Edinburgh and the Cocteau Twins' studio, showcases Budd's ethereal compositions with notable production assistance from Robin Guthrie and Brian Eno. The tracklist, featuring pieces like "The White Arcades" and "The Child With A Lion," weaves a tapestry of serene, introspective soundscapes that have left a lasting mark on the ambient genre. "The White Arcades" is not just an album but a testament to Budd's unique ability to create music that resonates with a sense of solitude and tranquility, as evidenced by its use in Rick Burns's Donner Party documentary. Recorded between June and December 1987, this album remains a pivotal work in Budd's discography, offering a timeless exploration of sound and atmosphere.

Whether a review is positive, negative, or neutral, we always publish it. However, we screen every review to ensure it is authentic and free of profanity. These checks happen automatically, though a human occasionally steps in. We never pay for reviews.

  • Hiss to Harmony

    5 out of 5 stars
    Helen WarrenAugust 27, 2025United States🇺🇸

Initial listening session underway... On the opening track of Both Sides, there's a constant low-level surface hiss. It's carrying quite a bit of static. Not what you'd expect for this genre. Plenty of detail and dynamics present. I'll revisit this after giving it a clean, etc.**Update** 7.5ml of Vinyl Gel on each side plus Milty Zerostat fixed it. Background noise is silent now. Turntable used for this review: Linn LP12/Ekos/Ortofon Windfeld ti/Ortofon ST-80 SE/Dynavector P-75.

  • Ambient Treasure Repress

Authentic Ambient treasure with a necessary repress. Without any sleeve treatment, I experienced static during the initial spins, but after that, it's been perfectly quiet.

  • Delightful Record Purchase

    4 out of 5 stars
    Ian GrahamJanuary 20, 2025United States🇺🇸

Absolutely delighted with my purchase, there's a few minor pops and clicks, but that's par for the course. The sound stage is fantastic, the sleeve is a tad snug with some vinyl edge peeking through the paper, but overall it's a fantastic record to own and spin.
