  • Jazz Brilliance in 1956

Incredible band. Every one of the four albums from those famous 1956 sessions is absolutely fantastic. I'm particularly fond of "It Never Entered My Mind" and "Ahmad's Blues" on this record.

  • KPG's Best Recent Work

    5 out of 5 stars
    Michael BrennanJanuary 2, 2026United States🇺🇸

I've compared this KPG pressing of Miles Davis' "Miles Prestige Great Quintet" against the ERC reissue. As usual, ERC's version is a clear upgrade, but unlike other ERC vs KPG comparisons I've done, this KPG disc holds its own. It's a fantastic reissue with excellent sound quality. Highly recommended! I'd say some of KPG's other discs, when stacked against ERC, are pretty disappointing (like "Quiet Kenny," "Informal Jazz," "Overseas," "Coltrane 7105," and the self-titled Chet Baker album). The comparison between Chet (ERC) and Chet (KPG) is particularly rough for the latter, the California-based mastering engineer. This is some of KPG's best recent work, though.

  • OJC Upgrade Delights

    5 out of 5 stars
    Claudia CookDecember 10, 2025United States🇺🇸

This is absolutely fantastic. I have an older OJC that I was already thrilled with, but this one is a clear upgrade in every aspect. The music bursts from my speakers with such vitality and energy. I'm baffled by some of the negative feedback here—I can't picture anyone being disappointed with this. The sound is flawless, the vinyl is perfect, considering there's just a couple of brief tape dropouts. I'm truly loving what this revival of the OJC series is offering.

  • Best Reissue Ever

    5 out of 5 stars
    Martina MazurOctober 16, 2025United States🇺🇸

Extremely good. Extremely fascinating. The original RVG was pressed hotter. This is a direct transfer, so I'm aware of what's on the master tapes. Comparing this to KG's 33 (the other great quintet Prestige AP as a reference), SH's double 45, & BG's Craft 33 Relaxin, and the original press is quite intriguing. This release is closer to KG 33 than BG Relaxin is. It's evident ERC uses a 1-Step process (they do! Which is why represses won't happen) by listening. This is the best reissue. Better than the OG in several aspects. This is the first time ERC hasn't outperformed KG's pressings in very clear ways. Interestingly, I'd also wager this is the reissue that everyone can agree is better than all the rest. There's detail here in the bass & piano not found even in SH 45.

  • Disappointing Vinyl Quality

    3 out of 5 stars
    Jeffrey NakamuraOctober 9, 2025United States🇺🇸

Let down by the pressing and audio quality. The vinyl is slightly warped and the sound is bright, almost harsh and unengaging. I couldn't even get through side 2. Hoping the next releases will be an improvement.
