  • Audio Quality Impressive

The audio quality is quite nice! There's a couple of crackles now and then, even after giving it a good clean. The mix sounds well balanced, though.

  • Rare US Hip-Hop Vinyl

It's astonishing that only four of these records are up for grabs in the US as of this writing. There are more copies floating around overseas for this US drop than within the continental United States itself. This isn't unheard of for 80's hip-hop vinyl releases, and this post is really about all Golden Age records, not just this P.E. one. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening? From what I know, Discogs is the top spot for collectors to buy and sell vinyl worldwide. I say this because if it's not listed here, chances are you won't find it elsewhere (in large quantities, at least). I've spotted a couple of these on Ebay, but again, same problem – most of the original pressings are outside the country where they were released over 30 years ago. Where have they all gone?!? Destroyed? Or just being cherished, enjoyed, and stored away...like my copy. I really hope it's the latter. Happy searching and please share any info that might help us all figure out the distribution of 80's hip-hop across the US and the world.

  • 80s Hip-Hop Freshness

    Finn LefevreNovember 27, 2024United States🇺🇸

This album was awesome and I was really shocked I hadn't come across this group prior. They draw a lot of influence from Run-DMC, but mix it up with a fresh rhythm and flow in each track, creating a unique taste that I believe any 80s hip-hop fan will dig.

Product description

This is a 2023 Reissue released as a LP.

Public Enemy's debut studio album, Yo! Bum Rush the Show, is a groundbreaking and unapologetic masterpiece that burst onto the scene on 10 February 1987. Released through Def Jam Recordings, this seminal work is a testament to the group's fearless and defiantly political approach to hip-hop. With their unique blend of east coast hip hop, hip hop, and hardcore hip hop, Public Enemy emerged as a powerful voice in the genre, staging what producer Hank Shocklee called "an organised coup" against the status quo.

The album's sample-heavy sound and confrontationally noisy style made it an instant sensation, despite being met with controversy among radio stations and critics due to lead rapper Chuck D's black nationalist politics. Featuring a stellar tracklist, including 'You're Gonna Get Yours', 'Sophisticated Bitch', and 'Public Enemy No. 1', Yo! Bum Rush the Show is a 46-minute sonic assault that showcases the group's unbridled energy and passion.

As a debut album, Yo! Bum Rush the Show is a remarkable achievement, one that cemented Public Enemy's position as a major force in hip-hop. With its release, the group proved themselves to be a bold and uncompromising voice, unafraid to tackle tough subjects and challenge the norms of the time. Today, the album remains a classic of the genre, a must-listen for fans of hip-hop and a powerful statement of intent from one of the most influential groups of all time.

About Public Enemy

Public Enemy, the iconic hip-hop group hailing from Roosevelt, New York, burst onto the scene in 1985 with a mission to challenge the status quo. Founded by Chuck D and Flavor Flav, the duo quickly gained notoriety for their unapologetic political messages, tackling issues like American racism and media manipulation. Their breakthrough came with the critically acclaimed "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back" in 1988, a landmark album that solidified their place in hip-hop history. With... Read more
