  • Skip Issue, Great Sound, Poor Sleeve

    4 out of 5 stars
    qebiitremkgDecember 29, 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

The record I have occasionally skips a bit on track one, so I'm planning to clean it up later to see if that fixes the issue. The audio quality is fantastic, even though I don't have any other editions to compare it to. The single sleeve is a bit disappointing, especially since even 'Hours...' came with a gatefold despite being a single LP, and '1. Outside' has plenty of visual and written content they could have included.

  • Audio Quality Shines

    4 out of 5 stars
    cglp22December 20, 2025United States🇺🇸

Audio quality here tops the 2015 Friday Music double LP, though I'd still pick the original CD every time. Not that this version is bad, but being digitally recorded, it can't quite match the original CD's edge, even over the newer CD. No extreme compression on any version I've listened to (though it's present to some degree in all), but it still sounds decent. It's his finest musical work since 1980.

  • Questionable Origin Items

Without a number on the sticker, I'd seriously question where any item up for sale actually came from.

  • Bowie's Hidden Gem

    5 out of 5 stars
    Binpavf19November 27, 2025United States🇺🇸

Released back in 2015, I'm puzzled why folks are still having trouble finding it a couple years down the line. It was pretty easy to come by when it first came out. The quality is great, minimal surface noise. I'd bet if they keep putting out these box sets, this'll be part of the 90s collection; otherwise, they're sure to drop a special edition...it's an album that's worth a spot in the Bowie catalog.

  • Bowie's Underrated Masterpiece

    5 out of 5 stars
    lilicNovember 2, 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

This pricey white vinyl version of Outside has some folks grumbling about its cost now that it's become a collector's item. Here's the thing about music, marketing, and fandom: trends come and go, often independent of the music's actual quality. It seems people are after this white edition of Outside simply because Bowie's currently in vogue and the album's perceived value has skyrocketed. But back in 1995, when Outside first dropped, Bowie wasn't exactly riding high. He'd been out of the spotlight for a couple of decades, with folks saying, "Bowie's had his day, his best work is behind him." This album was misunderstood, overlooked. Sure, it got some solid reviews, but they were mixed. Outside was snubbed, even with Bowie and Eno back together! So, what did fans want from Bowie instead? There was talk of Outside being the first in a five-part series about the coming millennium, but that never materialized. Maybe if the media and fans had embraced it, the series would've happened. Back then, nobody cared about a full vinyl edition, and vinyl itself was pretty much on the outs. I'm not even sure this album's truly appreciated by those clamoring to buy it now. Is this your favorite album? Why the sudden need for the full version on vinyl? Do you listen to it in awe? What draws you to this album? Have you delved into the lyrics? What does Nathan Adler mean to you? Are you familiar with the Viennese Actionists, Ron Athey, or Outsider Art? It's downright ironic that the album's title, Outside, is exactly where it languished back then. Outside, and on the brink of being forgotten. As often happened with Bowie, the outsider was turned inward, and he was back in the game, thanks largely to The Next Day. I'm a fan of that album, but let's be real, it's no Outside. So, all those "fans" left out in the cold, whining because they don't have a white vinyl edition of this album. Your complaints don't carry much weight. You're just reflecting the darker side of pop culture, popularity, and music commercialism that Bowie sang about so brilliantly on Outside. Outside is a brilliant concept album. And you can hear it in full on CD. It takes some time to appreciate this album, but it's worth the effort. Beyond its millennial themes, it shines a light on art and life in general and has a blast doing it. It's a seminal, alien-loving Bowie album. Maybe if you take the time to get to know the album, when you meet Bowie after you die, you won't be strangers.
