  • AiC's Triumphant Return

    5 out of 5 stars
    Patricia RamosAugust 13, 2025United States🇺🇸

I'll make this brief and to the point, with a bit of context about what this album means to me. I'm a huge AiC enthusiast, and when I found out a new album was on the way, I was more than doubtful; no one can take Layne's place. That's why I steered clear of this album until now (I know, close-minded me). If you're hoping for the band that left in the 90s, you'll be let down. But if you've checked out Jerry's other projects and can appreciate AiC's music over vocals, you'll be smitten. Duvall's got an incredible voice, and Jerry sounds furious on the guitar. It's a brilliant album, and one I wish I'd listened to sooner.

An absolutely phenomenal return to form. Alice in Chains kicks off a triumphant resurgence with this album.

  • Clean Record, Great Album

    4 out of 5 stars

The record I got had a bit of surface hiss, but after giving it a swift clean, it plays flawlessly. Plus, the album itself is fantastic.

  • Vinyl Sounds Fantastic

    5 out of 5 stars
    Birgit De VriesApril 3, 2025United States🇺🇸

Fantastic album with some truly amazing tracks. I'm really happy to have this on vinyl. Sound quality- When I first opened it, I noticed a lot of dust on the record's surface. After giving both sides a good clean, they sound fantastic. No problems at all.

  • Duvall's Moving Tribute

    5 out of 5 stars
    Ebba LarssonMarch 2, 2025

Incredibly dark, intense, yet deeply moving. It's not simple to step into another's shoes, but Duvall left a lasting impact and truly paid tribute to Layne's heritage. Fantastic album.

Product description

This 2024 Reissue 2LP set is housed in a gatefold.

Alice In Chains' fourth studio album, Black Gives Way to Blue, marks a triumphant return to form for the American rock band. Released on 29 September 2009, this album is a testament to the band's enduring legacy and their ability to create music that resonates with fans and critics alike.

This album is particularly significant as it is the band's first record without original lead singer Layne Staley, who passed away in 2002. However, with new vocalist and rhythm guitarist William DuVall sharing vocal duties with lead guitarist Jerry Cantrell, Alice In Chains proves that they can still deliver high-quality music that stays true to their roots.

The album features a range of tracks, including 'All Secrets Known', 'Check My Brain', and 'Last of My Kind', showcasing the band's signature grunge and post-grunge sound. The title track, 'Black Gives Way to Blue', is a poignant tribute to Layne Staley, with Jerry Cantrell on vocals and a special guest appearance by Elton John on piano.

With its release, Black Gives Way to Blue drew widespread critical acclaim and commercial success, launching into the Billboard Top 10 and receiving Gold certification just eight months later. The album's success is a testament to Alice In Chains' ability to craft music that is both meaningful and impactful.

Black Gives Way to Blue is an album that will appeal to both long-time fans of Alice In Chains and new listeners alike, offering a mix of heavy riffs, soaring vocals, and introspective lyrics that have come to define the band's sound. With a duration of 1 hour and 2 minutes, this album is a must-listen for anyone who loves grunge and post-grunge music.
