60 minutes of pure fuzzy saturation, sound art, hypnotic repetition, and exotic melodies. Music doesn't get better.

Sounded fuzzy out of the package, sounded great after a wet clean. A friendly reminder that record pressing plants are not lab-sterile environments, and even new records should probably be wet-cleaned before they hit your deck.

Clean, silent frisbees and perfectly balanced sound with that pinch of warmth. Better than the files. Competent packaging.

If you don’t mind fixing the off-center issue by enlarging the spindle hole, IMO this is the one to get. I initially bought the 2019 reissue but found it much too boomy, too polished and separated, as well as lacking song dynamics. Mastering that way works pretty well for the rest of their catalogue, but this album is a wall of distorted sound comparatively. It needs a rock-oriented mastering, which is exactly what this is. It retains the unified, slightly dingy sound that gives these songs their highest energy and excitement. The detail sounds higher than the remaster, but it’s more subtle and less separated. “Pack yr romantic mind” and “Crest” almost sound like a completely different mix (in a good way). The only metric I would say is improved on the 2019 is the stereo image, which is a good bit wider. Either way, this one is the keeper for me by a long shot.

Product description

This is a 2025 Reissue Remastered released as a 2LP set.

Dive into the kaleidoscopic soundscapes of Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements, the second studio album by the visionary English-French band Stereolab. Released in August 1993, this album marks a bold evolution in their signature blend of art pop, krautrock, and post-rock, solidifying their reputation as pioneers of experimental music. With a runtime of just over an hour, the album weaves together ten tracks that oscillate between hypnotic grooves and playful experimentation, showcasing the band’s knack for crafting infectious yet cerebral anthems.

From the pulsating synths of "Tone Burst" to the infectious bounce of "Our Trinitone Blast," and the dreamy, off-kilter charm of "Pack Yr Romantic Mind," each track feels like a journey through a sonic wonderland. The album’s title itself hints at its restless energy—transient bursts of noise punctuated by announcements, evoking the chaotic beauty of urban life. Instruments like the Ondioline and analog synths lend a retro-futuristic edge, while the repetitive, motorik rhythms draw from krautrock legends like Can and Neu!, grounding the album in a groove that’s both nostalgic and fresh.

Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements isn’t just a collection of songs; it’s a testament to Stereolab’s ability to turn obscure influences into something universally captivating. Whether it’s the shimmering "Golden Ball" or the hypnotic loop of "Lock-Groove Lullaby," the album invites listeners to lose themselves in its intricate layers, where every listen reveals new details. With its expanded edition offering unreleased demos and alternate takes, this album is a treasure trove for fans of adventurous, genre-defying music.
