  • Vinyl Reissues: Quality & Value

    5 out of 5 stars

I wholeheartedly endorse this vinyl release. Those Chess reissues from about '84 are mostly excellent alternatives to the originals, letting you save cash while still getting a superb all-analogue pressing. Various folks mastered them, but many were handled by the esteemed Steve Hoffman. Funny enough, these reissues can be harder to find than the originals sometimes. I'd much rather grab a quality pressing like this than splurge on a potentially lower-quality original. For many, it's the only legit all-analogue option out there, though some are digital remasters - but not this one. • Superior Audio Clarity Release

    4 out of 5 stars
    zaqoycnkgeivoOctober 16, 2025United States🇺🇸

I own both this version and the 2006 one. This Audio Clarity release is way superior to the 2006 pressing, which is so bad that even my 4-year-old could do a better job. The 2006 version has awful audio distortion and should have never been released. I'm thrilled I decided to purchase this version instead. Despite being an unofficial release, you'd never guess it. The sound is clean, quiet, and absolutely gorgeous. It truly does justice to Dorothy's album. It's a brilliant piece of musical inspiration and genius. The price is good too. Highly recommend it!

  • Bootleg Gem: Perfect Sound

    5 out of 5 stars
    buiteyil.hesnadOctober 10, 2025United States🇺🇸

I'm typically not one for bootlegs, but this album is nearly impossible to find. While wandering through Arnhem, I stumbled upon a tiny record shop that had a fantastic selection of obscure Jazz, Fusion, and Soul records. The moment I spotted the cover, I snatched it up. The shop owner had opened the record but never played it. After a quick listen to each track on the store's basic Numark turntable with its well-worn Ortofon stylus, I was sold. The sound was surprisingly good. Once home, I played it on my Pioneer PL51a with the AT-VM95SH cartridge, and within seconds, I was blown away. This repress is the purest and most dynamic I've heard in ages. The instrument separation is astonishing, like they pulled it straight from the master tapes or a top-notch digital file. The flute, drums, and especially the harp—oh, the harp—it's as if they're right there with you, enveloping you in sound. There's zero static or surface noise, and I haven't even cleaned it yet. I haven't heard the original, but this beats most official represses hands down. If you find this, grab it without hesitation. It's an incredible pressing. The sleeve is beautifully printed, with sharp text and vibrant colors matching any high-quality digital version. It even comes with a nice audiophile inner sleeve. I never thought I'd say this about a bootleg, but this one's a perfect 10/10. Snag it if you get the chance. Picked it up for €22,90 at Waaghals in Arnhem. Keep Steady and Spinning. -Teo
