Product description

This 2018 Reissue LP is pressed on 180g vinyl.

"On the Threshold of a Dream" marks the fourth studio album by the British progressive rock pioneers, released in April 1969. Stepping further into their symphonic and psychedelic soundscapes, the Moody Blues crafted an album that blends baroque pop melodies with deep blues undertones, all wrapped in their signature orchestral arrangements.

With a runtime of 37 minutes, the album takes listeners on a journey through ethereal soundscapes and introspective lyrics. Tracks like "Lovely to See You" and "Send Me No Wine" showcase the band’s knack for catchy hooks and lush instrumentation, while deeper cuts like "The Dream" and "The Voyage" highlight their ambition and musical complexity. The album’s title track, "On the Threshold of a Dream," serves as a hypnotic centerpiece, weaving together hypnotic rhythms and dreamlike vocals.

Produced during a time when the Moody Blues were refining their signature blend of rock and orchestral elements, this album solidified their reputation as innovators of the genre. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to their sound, "On the Threshold of a Dream" offers a captivating listen that captures the essence of late '60s progressive rock.

  • Fold-down mix surprises with power

It's a fold-down mix but really sounds great, quite powerful and loud—I actually like it better than the stereo version!

  • Peak psych Moodies masterpiece

    Violet PearsonDecember 27, 2025

Fold down mix or not, the first mono press hits punchy and this is the peak psych Moodies. I hadn’t realised what messianic acid heads they were till recently. Love it. 5*

  • Columbia Record Club edit oddity

    5 out of 5 stars
    Martina De VriesDecember 18, 2025United States🇺🇸

No clue why the Columbia Record Club edition fades out and in with a second or two of silence 'tween each track. This record was supposed to flow seamless like one song should fade straight into the next. The only thing that pops into my head is maybe they shipped this to radio stations too for on-air play to make needle drops easier. Still, it's kinda strange.

  • Too Symphonic, Great Tracks

    3 out of 5 stars
    Signe StewartDecember 5, 2025United States🇺🇸

It's got some fantastic tracks, though it's a bit *too* 'symphonic' for my liking.

  • Budget Nautilus Superdisc Misses the Mark

    3 out of 5 stars
    Rafael MüllerOctober 10, 2025United States🇺🇸

Snatched this up on the cheap at a local store, where I’m pretty sure it had been gathering dust for a solid two years. Finally decided to take the plunge just to say I’ve got at least one Nautilus Superdisc of this in my collection. Don’t have another pressing to judge it against—it’s not my top Moody Blues pick (that’d still be DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED), and shelf space is limited, so it’s not like I’m drowning in copies of this one. Maybe it’s one of the stronger versions out there (though I won’t know for sure until I snag both an original pressing and the MoFi), but honestly? It didn’t wow me. Doesn’t sound any better than what I’ve heard on streaming—it’s not *terrible*, just didn’t blow me away. Might circle back if I ever get around to tracking down a few more copies of OTTOAD.

About The Moody Blues

The Moody Blues, hailing from Birmingham, England, are a legendary rock band that emerged in 1964 and have since left an indelible mark on the music world. Initially rooted in the British beat and R&B scene, the band quickly evolved, embracing the psychedelic and progressive rock movements of the late 1960s. Their groundbreaking second album, "Days of Future Passed," released in 1967, is a seminal work that fused rock with classical music, establishing the Moody Blues as pioneers in art rock and...
